- Membership

The United Kingdom Association of Fee-Paid Judges was formed in 2014 and now has over 250 members and is a member of the Judges’ Council.

Membership is open to all judicial office holders who sit and are paid on a part-time basis in the UK, whether or not they also hold a salaried judicial post, but excluding solely tribunal judges who have a separate association.

We do not receive any subsidy from the Judiciary, unlike other judicial associations, and so depend upon members’ subscriptions to continue our work and maintain our website, insurance, etc.

Members of the Committee are unpaid and have no separate secretarial assistance. By keeping costs down we have been able to reduce the membership subscriptions to just £50 per year. In order to do this, it is important members pay on time, for which we are grateful.

We are always looking for new members of the committee as people retire or become salaried judges.

Once approved, membership gives access to the closed areas of this site (including access to our document download section, including such things as important contact points for fee paid judges, a simple forum area and news of events), as well as the right to vote for (and stand as) officers of the Association. You can also access the news page and receive a weekly newsletter summarising any news stories. Members also have access to our closed email discussion list, together with e-mail bulletins.

Projects in the pipeline include a dedicated fully-featured forum website for members to share ideas and questions and an online depository of essential forms to use when sitting.

- Membership Subscriptions

Please read the following instructions carefully

There is an annual fee of £50. To apply for membership of the UKAFPJ, please complete the form below for arranging payment of your membership subscription.

This is for everyone to complete only when registering on this website for the first time. (If you have already registered on this site previously and just want to renew your existing subscription, simply log in and you will be shown details of your current membership subscription with an option to renew.)

You can arrange to set up a recurring PayPal payment by selecting the checkbox, and we would ask everyone to do this if possible, as it saves an enormous amount of administrative time.

You can also pay by credit/debit card by selecting the PayPal payment option and then clicking on the ‘Pay with a debit or credit card’ button on the PayPal page (you don’t need a PayPal account to pay by this method).

As soon as your application for membership has been approved and your payment received, you will be given full access to the site and to the other facilities enjoyed by members of the UKAFPJ.
